I don't have anything specific to post about, but I had this urge to write. I'm taking two classes this session-Brit and American lit survey courses. Both my teachers are poets, which is different for me and due to the time constraint, we covered a lot of poetry. It's been pretty interesting since I have limited amounts of exposure to poetry, so pretty much everything is new. I have a new found appreciation for poetry since these courses and actually feel like I can figure out a poem's general meaning in the first or second reading. I'm also VERY excited for these classes to be OVER because I'll have a chance to read for FUN!
Thus far, my summer reading list includes:
Moby Dick (It was ALL one of my professors could talk about last semester)
P.S. I Love You (impulse buy just after falling in love with Gerard Butler in the film version)
Huckleberry Finn (because I've never read it all the way through and that's just sad)
Everything by Jane Austen except Pride and Prejudice (since I've read that one at least three times already)
The World According to Garp (just saw the movie and hopefully the book has an ending)
Coraline (reading American Gods for class and I liked the movie)
Alice Through the Looking Glass (more stuff I can't believe I've never read)
...and there are lots more, but I can't seem to think of any off the top of my head- suggestions welcome!
I suppose I should probably get back to reading, but my presentation is going to be pretty stiff tomorrow. Hopefully I can pull it off...

I spent what felt like hours (I think it was actually only 40-45 minutes) tonight, listening to someone tell me about myself- how amazingly complicated I am and that I've been "scorned" and now put up barriers and push anyone (any guy, specifically) away, should he get anywhere near breaking said barriers. I will admit, this guy is right, but damn, why do I have to sit there and listen to him tell me that? Well, then he asked me to choose one person to spend the rest of my life with, one person who could fulfill all my needs (emotionally, etc), and I said I couldn't because there isn't just one person or type of relationship that can fill all my needs, nor will I be able to fill someone else's needs entirely and he said that he believes there is a girl out there for him that CAN do that, to whom he can reciprocate. I had nothing else to say to him, because I was so sick of arguing in circles that I said, "sorry that I disappointed you" and left.
I almost called him to give him MY analysis of him and a few other choice words of what I think of him and his need to feel smarter and more superior to others by telling them who they are, but then I thought that maybe I shouldn't give him the satisfaction of knowing he got to me. Obviously, he already knows that, and I'm not even sure why he got under my skin so much. In any case, I decided not to call him. I'll probably never see him again anyway, if the past has taught me anything.
Do you all think people are complicated by nature? Or do we create complications in ourselves to add drama to what seems like a boring life?

I got a D on my history paper. Which means to get a C in the class I have to get an A on the final and the professor hates my writing.
I say this a lot, but I feel like a big time failure today.

I got totally dissed today. I went to lunch with the same people I have lunch with every T/Th and today, I got about three sentences out of a friend. Then she and her friend asked if I wanted to go back to the dorm with them, but I declined since i had homework to finish before class. Fine, NBD. Well, after class this friend and I usually get coffee together, but today she just looked at me blankly and said, "No, I can't." Then, promptly turned back to aformentioned friend and continued ignoring me as we all left the building. What the hell?
I know I don't have a right to complain, but I've been feeling so lonely these days. I guess it's good practice for the real world. If only I had one of my favorite childhood movies on hand; it's the only thing that helps me feel better in times like this.
In other news, I'm about to go to what is HOPEFULLY my final grad check and HOPEFULLY, this Eric guy will say my classes for this summer and next semester add up and I'm good to go. Then, come December, I'M OUTTA HERE!

Yep. Stage Managed a Greek Week all by myself, lived to tell the tale and kept my job. Unfortunately, the tale isn't all that impressive. One of my favorite repeated moments was when various "skitters" as their peers call them, would look at our big digital clock and assume it was timing their skit, not the ACTUAL time. Pretty funny when it says it's 9:30 and their skit has one out of twelve minutes left.
Other than that, I have TONS of paper writing due tomorrow and made very little progress in the last 48 hours. I was also supposed to drive home today, but didn't get out of work until after 1 am, so I just slept. I should probably use this free time to play catch up, but I played around on youtube and discovered Susan Boyle and although i love her, I also love how the production team handled the whole situation because they probably knew she was going to be amazing and then she was and playing the music while everyone sang her praises. And then, as Simon gives her the third "yes," the soars. Here's the video again and listen to the music--it adds so much to whole ordeal.

This week: Greek Week show every night from 4 or 5 until 10 or later, 2 papers and journal entry thing due Friday, performance due tomorrow, JPAC paper due tomorrow, over 100 pages of reading due Wednesday and I really should finish reading "Cymbaline" for tomorrow as well.
The nice thing is that I do have breaks between classes. Tonight is going to really stink because there is no way my performance is going to be prepared by tomorrow. There is also immense amounts of work to be done on two group projects, of which one group is meeting tonight without me. I know every other college student is feeling the same way too.
Good Luck everyone!!

Stupid school and all the stupid reading and then the stupid Greeks having their week and then all the stupid people all over the place. I cannot wait to get out of Missouri, or at least until this Saturday, despite the circumstances. My almost-Aunt Ellen's sister, Susan died last weekend of liver failure. She was a big time alcoholic, a breast cancer survivor, and decent person. Anyway, they discovered that she had stage 4 liver cancer not too long ago and it was a swift road to the end, much like my grandma (except she had cancer in her esophagus and was not an alcoholic, but did deal with emphizema due to smoking). Her death was not a surprise, but it's still really sad, mostly for Rosemary, Ellen's mom, who has now last her husband and three of her six children. Rosemary is an extremely strong woman (also a breast cancer survivor), though and is a lot like my grandma. The two of them met a number of times and got along really well, too.
So, I'm going home for about 20 hours this weekend to see Ellen, Rosemary and some other family, plus my blood-related family for Easter Sunday. That in itself is emotional enough, as my paternal grandpa suffers Dimentia and hardly recognized anyone beyond his wife. I never know what to do around my dad's side, since they're all older and don't really care what's going on in my life and I really don't want to listen to endless anecdotes about how adorable my cousin's children are (or aren't) or plans for the next two weddings. I used to talk with my grandpa during such times because he was so sweet, but now it just makes me want to cry, which of course won't wash because well... that's just not something you do in my family, not in anything resembling a public sphere, anyway.
I also stink on the friend front as I am harboring long-overdue birthday cards. Sorry- Love you!
In unrelated news, Paul decided to ignore me, so I deleted him from my phone. We haven't spoken in almost a week and I don't forsee any resolution. Felt pretty good to delete him, and then I spent too much money and felt awesome/guilty.
Okay, I guess I need to get back to my reading. I guesstimate that between four books, I'm around 400 pages behind. I should be able to put in some decent time before bed, though and lunch hours this weekend. Not that I have much choice.

The CIA is coming to our campus and I got an e-mail announcing such. It's just me and Kris in the apartment since Sophie's desking it up. Anyway, I read him the following description:
More than just a job, the CIA offers a unique career — a way of life that will challenge your deepest resources of intelligence, self-reliance and responsibility. It demands:
· an adventurous spirit
· a forceful personality
· superior intellectual ability
· mental toughness
· personal integrity
· courage
· love of our country
You will be challenged by fast-moving, ambiguous and unstructured situations - and rewarded
with the knowledge that your work is making a difference on a national level.
Kris replied, "Isn't that for Disney?"

Just went to my first BIG concert- the Eagles at the Arena and it was AWESOME!!!!
The only reason I got to go is because my friend Beth's boyfriend got sick and couldn't, so I felt bad that he's sick, but when she called him after the concert he was out with his friends, so DUN. DUN. DUUUN!
But wow- it was SO good! Joe Walsh is a god in the world of guitar-playing. I'm sure most of you knew that, but seeing it LIVE, from the 14th (!!!!!) row was surreal. The whole thing was just mind blowing and SO much better than studying for Anthropology. I'm sure I'll pay for it, but "you can always retake the class, you can't relive the party," right? Yeah I know, but I don't care about logic and reason and responsibility. It was an awesome piece of life experience!!
Ok, down to business.

... Or will be soon. It turns out that most of the rumors were right- D23 is the first official fan club of the Walt Disney Company. It costs $75 for the Charter year membership and I just can't help myself.
A one-year D23 Charter Membership* includes:
- Disney ''twenty-three'' Quarterly Publication: A one-year subscription (four issues) to D23's exquisite collectible magazine, filled with stunning photography, dazzling illustrations and the ultimate Disney insider perspective. It's your all-access pass to discovering the magic of Disney's past, present and future!
- Membership Card and Certificate: Your membership card and personalized, suitable-for-framing charter member certificate feature many of Disney's most beloved characters drawn by Disney Master Artist David Pacheco.
- Surprise Collectible Gift: A collectible just for D23 members. You'll receive a gift you'll cherish from the new Walt Disney Archives Collection.
- Exclusive Special Events and Merchandise: D23 offers its members unique special-event opportunities throughout the year, as well as access to exclusive, limited-edition merchandise and collectibles.
- D23 Expo: It's the ultimate Disney fan experience, taking place in Anaheim, California from September 10-13, 2009. This can't-miss event will feature guest speakers, celebrity appearances, breathtaking exhibitions, sneak peeks, film screenings, one-of-a-kind merchandise, and so much more! Admission will be discounted for D23 members.
- Subscription to bi-weekly D23 FanFare e-newsletter with breaking news and special offers. (You may opt out of receiving FanFare after your first e-newsletter arrives.)
If nothing else, I will gobble up the literature and can have it forever. I'll consider it research for my career. Who knows? This D23 thing may be a job opportunity. I mean, I know they've already got the key people who started it, but they have to have people to continue running it...
So, there's my pathetic rationalization.
The only thing I need now is a D23 membership name... and I have NO IDEA what to choose. It can't be one those stupid ones, like Dsny4life, or I<3Walt. I want it to reflect me and my commitment to the Company, not that they have the foggiest notion as to who I am... but something. Ideas welcome!
Thanks for enduring my geekiness!

Not much going on, just school and work, which of course is driving me nuts. I like my classes and all, but things are really monotonous. Mardi Gras is today and I celebrated by eating chicken and watching HP and the Order of the Phoenix, which Sophie hadn't seen yet. We saw "He's Just not that Into You" last night and the HBP preview was GRRRREAT!! Can't wait for July!!! And now I'm watching "Prince Caspian" and being a little sad that Disney dropped the franchise. Apparently Fox picked it up, so hopefully the rest of the books will get made. I like this casting better than the BBC version made in the... late 80s, early 90s?
This has nothing to do with anything, but Disney is starting its own fan club and so far, the only promos out on it have been posters asking "Are you 23?" which is the year the studio was founded and these commemorative pins-

There will probably be an annual fee that I can't afford and after reading some of the message boards and such around the web, I don't know jack squat about Disney, so I probably wouldn't be able to pass a hardcore fan trivia test. I guess all will reveal itself on the 10th. In the meantime, I have a wedding shower to attend this weekend for one of my best friends. It's still odd to me that one of my closest friends is getting MARRIED in May. I'm not sure why I can't seem to wrap my head around the thought. So, that's pretty much it... Oh, Yay WALL-E- BEST ANIMATED FEATURE 2008!!! I knew it would beat Kung Fu Panda. Too bad the Annie's are more important to animation buffs and fans and Panda won that one. I still think Wall-E is better!

In other news, I met this guy at a party and we've hung out a few times and he's really cool... but not for me romantically. If I was iffy about relationships before the last one, then umm.. yeah. It made me giggle..
I should also add that the reason we even started talking is because I thought his last name was FossE, as in Bob Fosse, one of the greatest choreographers in American Musical Theater, like EVER. Yep- I am a dork.
Oh, and Becky- that "Twilight" screen cap made my life! At least it wasn't an ostrich!

I'm already behind. It's really sad how much reading I have to do this semester. Good thing I like to read. I may have already posted on this, but the new bookstore does not have bathrooms. The closest ones are GCB, A & S, or Conservation and I'm not joking. Dumbasses. Other than that, I have three quarters of my books now (Yay!), but still waiting for some rather important ones to come in. Complete Works of William Shakespeare- that means YOU!
Anyway, I'm pretty much settled into the townhouse, but every time I go to Wal-Mart I think of three more things I need/want, then struggle to resist the temptation to buy them because said items are probably sitting around mi casa. I did remember my chairs for desk and kitchen table so yayz for that. Forgot the shelf again, but it's not quite what I thought it would be, so I'm thinking of ganking an old bookcase from the basement instead.
That's pretty much it... February is going to be insane between the amount of reading I have and the amount of calls I unwisely signed up for at Jesse. Oh, and parking and transportation services= le suck.

So, I moved out of FARC for the last time on Wednesday. As the PA was RICCing me out, I started bawling. Then, poor Sophie had to listen to me rant about... just about everything. Either way, I'm (almost) officially moved into the townhouse :) I just have to visit the leasing office tomorrow to sign things and get keys.
Thus far, everything is cool here. Sophie took a picture of the cat, Loki sitting on my laundry rather than defiling it, so I seem to have passed initiation. Yay!
